Never wanting to miss an opportunity to start someone on the road to 'sewing enrichment' :) I'd heard that a friend was getting their Daughter her very first sewing machine and immediately leapt into action...
I got some cotton reels and pins together...
Then a mixture of zips, elastic and wire...
And no tool kit is complete without a good pair of scissors, pinking shears, an unpicker and some spare needles...
Oh...and I also added into the kit this great sewing book especially for kids (well worth a look, the instructions are well illustrated and the instructions are easy to follow)...which got used straight away as you'll see...
I grabbed a bundle of fat-quarters and off I went to visit my friend and parachute-in these sewing essentials for her Daughter...
And here she is...I helped her get the machine set up, this one was a lovely bright red and purchased from John Lewis. Much gratefulness for the sewing essentials delivery later and she was off and running with a first make...
After a bit of practising this very smart elasticated skirt was made...a zig-zag stitch was used to smarten up the edges and it looked lovely...and has been worn pretty much ever since :) And there was no stopping her once she got going...
She upcycled these old harem trousers into a T-shirt next...the legs were used as the arm cuffs and the elasticated waist from the trousers used as a waist on the T-shirt...great work...:) Although I don't teach children at my Learn It Stitch It classes, I have to say how wonderful it was to see a child get so excited about sewing.
And Children have been the heart of a couple of recent makes here at the Learn It Stitch It Studio recently too...Clair made this lovely fox-face quilt for her friends new baby...
And Sue used some left-over Liberty fabric to make this wrap-around front, child's dress...stunning fabric :)
The Summer Holidays will be beckoning me very soon...so I'll look forward to catching up with you all again in late August.
Keep sewing :) Naomi x
