Tim's Waistcoat

Tim has been having lessons making a waistcoat from a simple pattern. First we cut him a toile and fitted it, from which we remarked the toile and used this as his new pattern.

Tim has been having lessons making a waistcoat from a simple pattern. First we cut him a toile and fitted it, from which we remarked the toile and used this as his new pattern.

"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toile is a fabric, from the French word meaning "linen cloth" or "canvas", particularly cloth or canvas for painting on. The word "toile" can refer to the fabric itself, a test garment (generally) sewn from the same material, or a type of repeated surface decoration (traditionally) printed on the same fabric."

Tim and I had had a couple of lessons on some of the details he wished to add to his waistcoat: Jetted pockets, Welts, collars and covering buttons. He also practiced different types of button holes before putting all of these details onto the front sections of the waistcoat. (The buttons went on after the waistcoat was finished)

Then the magic happens! Tim learnt the art of turning through the waistcoat using a bagging out method. It was lovely to see all his hard work suddenly look like a waistcoat, Tim was as excited as a kid at Christmas.

One very smart waistcoat and student!

If you want to learn how, book now. :-)

See you soon
